10 of the Pettiest Reasons Some People Refuse to Date Others
Like polio, modern dating is something I am happy to avoid, though I keep those people who need to endure it in my thoughts. I feel sorry for anyone trying to find romance in 2023, especially youngsters dealing with some entitled members of the dating game. A recent online post shares the pettiest reasons people claim they wouldn’t date someone.
1. Horses for Courses
Some sentient wisdom arrives first, though I am not sure this one is petty — it sounds reasonable. If a woman posts horse riding photos in her dating profile, you can guarantee that said animal takes priority over any romantic interest. As a rule, some guys see horse photos and run like Seabiscuit.
2. A Twitching Eye
Have you ever met a smart, caring, beautiful woman, only to be turned off by a slight eye twitch? One former freshman admits that a girl’s eyelid spasm — no doubt caused by caffeine, fatigue, or stress — turned him off. Lucky for her, he admits he is an idiot, so she dodged a bullet anyway.
3. Angel Voice or Angle Grinder?
Rarely do you meet a woman who has the most beautiful vocal tone, soothing your fears and giving you the peace you desire after a long day. However, others are born with a voice that does the opposite; even if she is stunning, one can only survive a grating voice for so long.
4. Weirdly Shaped Mouth
When a lady recalls not going for a second date with a nice guy, her reason may bring sympathy or disdain. On a date with a new man, she was transfixed by his trapezoid-shaped mouth — though transfixed badly. I have heard many women say how they don’t care what a man looks like, which is patently untrue.
5. Big Mouths
Other ladies tell of how they find big mouths a turn-off, especially when you can see to the back of a date’s throat. I am with them on this one; some people just love to open wide when they speak. Moreover, a lousy tooth-to-gum ratio can also wave an aesthetic red flag for courting singles.
6. Being Mealy-Mouthed
Some defects are caused by a lack of balance in someone’s motor skill development, meaning certain people have a dominant side to their mouth. As harsh as this sounds, smiling or talking from one side of your mouth can give the impression you are shifty or just don’t like being direct.
7. Rogue Teeth
One romantic misadventure involves having a date with one solitary crooked tooth. Perfectionism is not conducive to a long-lasting relationship. When the crooked-toothed man went his separate way, finally marrying a beautiful woman and starting a family, the person who rejected him regretted her decision.
8. Two Dates; Same Shirt
A big no-no for many women is a man turning up to a second date in the same shirt he wore for the first. Furthermore, when that man bumps into them months later, still wearing the same shirt, she will likely pat herself on the back for good foresight. In his defense, he may have been wearing a different version of the same shirt — some people are like that.
9. Allergies Are Weakness
Some people live by Darwinian standards, so for certain dating untouchables, if you suffer from hay fever, they will lose respect for you. A contributor discusses their girlfriend’s reluctance to see a date again because of his peanut allergy. According to said friend, allergies are a sign of weakness.
10. Busting Crystal Balls
When entering a date’s living space for the first time, some guys know what red flags to look for — astrology enthusiasm. Whether it is their crystal collection, random mentions of chakras, or tarot cards sitting on their shelf, certain men know this isn’t going to work out.
