10 Things That Scream “We’re Not Going To Last Long” for Couples

Everybody knows that most relationships fail — and many people constantly search for the relationship that will ultimately succeed. However, there are some major red flags to look for that signify if a relationship will eventually fail. Recently, men and women met in an online discussion to reveal everything that signals that a new relationship will not last long!

1. Contempt for the Other’s Feelings

Professionals always know all the tell-tale signs that couples won’t make it. One person recalls asking a marriage counselor directly about the reasons. “I was at a party once, and there was a marriage counselor there that had been working for 20 years in couples counseling,” explains one woman.

“I asked her what the number one sign was that a couple wouldn’t make it. Without hesitating, she said, “If one person shows contempt for the other’s feelings, it’s over!”

2. Having a Kid for the Wrong Reasons

Sadly, many couples decide to have children to mend an already-failed relationship. “Glue children” are named such because they serve as desperate attempts to keep two people together, even if the writing is already on the wall.

Couples should have children out of love, not because they think it will bring them closer together or solve problems in their relationship.

3. If All Disagreements End in Arguments

It’s okay to disagree with each other when you’re in a relationship – even arguments can’t be avoided 100% of the time. However, if every minor quibble ends up being a horrific war of words, you should take that as a sign that the two of you aren’t compatible. Cut your losses before the situation worsens.

4. When They Overshare

Couples who insist on sharing every development of their lives across social media are a common sign that they are not enjoying a healthy relationship. “A childhood friend posts five or six photos of her and her husband daily,” reports one woman.

“The lighting is always magazine-perfect with good composition and depth of field. It must take an hour every day. I want to be like, ‘Girl, are you okay?'”

5. If They Have Conflicted Plans for Their Future

One of the most essential traits of a healthy and happy relationship is both people are on the same page regarding their future.

For example, if only one person wants to have children, it can lead to issues that lead to the ultimate demise of the relationship if feelings don’t change on the matter. Failure to compromise on issues causes a relationship to be dead in the water.

6. They’re Unfaithful Immediately

It’s hard for a flag to be redder than continuing a relationship that begins with someone being unfaithful. If you find yourself in a relationship with someone who cheated on their significant other with you, I don’t know what to tell you except that it will happen to you at some point. Many people believe that “Once a cheater, always a cheater.”

7. If Someone Has Control Issues

Some relationships are so dysfunctional that I can’t imagine them being good, even initially! Sometimes, people let their control issues take over a relationship. “I know a couple where the woman will just berate her man publicly,” laments one woman.

“She’ll talk to him like he’s an actual child. She tells him how much he’s allowed to do certain things but twists it so it doesn’t look as bad. It’s as if she genuinely thinks he’s mentally disabled or something, except she only does it when she’s being controlling.”

8. Matching Tattoos

Although there’s no scientific reasoning behind it, many people agree: As soon as the tattoo artist starts, the breakup clock starts counting down! Many tattoo artists warn against matching tattoos for couples because it’s generally considered in the industry to be a bad omen for the future. Getting each other’s names is also a no.

9. When the Relationship Is Transactional

If a relationship is nothing more than a numbers game for you, you’re in it for all the wrong reasons! “One of my exes did this: He saw our relationship as very transactional and literally kept score of each perceived slight, each dollar spent, and even wanted to keep the glassware he had before our relationship separated,” reveals one woman.

“As much as I want to be angry at myself for staying in that relationship as long as I did, I will just have to take it as a lesson learned.”

10. Lack of Communication

Communication is the name of the game, and a lack of it means that even the best-intentioned relationship can fall apart. According to many people, there’s arguably nothing more important than open and honest communication between two people in a committed relationship – communication should always be the top priority.
