Christ in the Commandments Bible Study for the whole family!

I was recently sent a copy of Christ in the commandments Bible Study to review.

I must admit, I was really curious about this study and what Christ had to do with the 10 Commandments.  Then as I am reading on page 11, I read this: “Ten Reasons your kids should memorize the 1o Commandments”.  When I got to number 5 I had an “Oh Duh!” moment. Jesus lived by the 10 commandments, (John 15:10) and truly lived out the first two in all ways as an example for us.  “For our children to understand the teachings of Christ, they must have a grasp of the commandments.”

Reason number 10 also stood out to me: The 10 commandment give us a good picture of the character of God. I had certainly never thought of it that way. So thinking on that, I continued reading through the study.

This study is divided into 30 lessons. These lessons are intended for use as a family study with a primary focus on teaching our kids the importance of the 10 commandments today and also suggests ways to help children memorize this portion of scripture.

Each Christ in the Commandments Bible Study lesson includes:

  • An opening thought to prepare your kids for the lesson
  • A Scripture reading
  • An explanation of that passage in simple terms
  • Discussion questions
  • A Prayer

Like all of the other studies found at Write Through the Bible, The Christ in the Commandments Bible Study also has a companion workbook that can be used with it.

What is this companion workbook? Intended for use as homeschool curriculum; Write Through the Bible combines penmanship and scripture together into an excellent way for your child to memorize the word of God.

The Opening Thoughts are fun conversation starters. I feel these would be very good to have especially if your children are younger.

The Scripture Reading focuses on a few key verses instead of entire chapters. I feel this would be very helpful in keeping your child’s attention.

The Simple Explanation is wonderful. Written in a way that is interesting and meaningful, it properly puts into everyday language what you just read in the Bible. I feel this helps make God’s word really come to life.

I absolutely love the Bible Discussions part. Some of the discussion questions are great for younger children and I think they will really be able to answer them and interact on a deeper level. Others will leave the younger ones saying “I don’t know” but the older ones will really be able to respond. The great things about the questions, is there are also guided answers for you as the parent. 🙂

And finally the prayer. What a wonderful way to cement into their hearts what has just been learned!

My final thoughts: This is a great, well grounded and thought out Bible study. If I would change anything, I would like to see this study available in print as well as digital download. Maybe in the future. 🙂
