Approx. 8 cups of mashed potatoes, salted, peppered and buttered to taste.
1# hamburger
1 quart of green beans
½ medium onion chopped
Mushroom sauce (recipe below)
1 cup shredded cheese
Mushroom Soup Ingredients
3T Butter
3T flour
1½ cups milk
¼ cup dry, mushrooms, Or ½ cup sliced fresh mushrooms, Or small can of mushrooms.
¼ teas. celery powder
¼ teas. onion powder
¼ teas garlic powder
1 teas. salt.
Instructions
Start by getting your potatoes on. You can use instant or real. The 8 cups is an approximate measure, but usually 8 medium potatoes is about right.
Make Your Mushroom Soup: Melt butter on medium high heat, then stir in flour. Add in mushrooms and seasoning, stir well. Pour milk over it all and heat until thickened and bubbly.
Brown your hamburger and onion together, drain off grease. Stir in your mushroom sauce.
Mash your potatoes and season to taste.
Drain your green beans and lightly press them into the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Spoon the hamburger sauce mixture over the green beans. Spread your mashed potatoes over top of that and sprinkle cheese on the mashed potatoes.
This will fill the pan clear full. If you have a lot more than 8 cups of potatoes, you may not want to put them all on. Bubbled over casserole isn't exactly what you want in your oven. :)
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are bubbly.
Notes
This is a great make-ahead meal; however, be for-warned that once you put it in the fridge, it will take close to an hour to warm. This is due to the potatoes taking a long time to get hot in the oven.
Another tip, when you go to reheat leftovers (assuming there are some) if you are just warming enough for 2 or 3 people, you can put it in a pan with a bit of water, turn the head to med low and cover. It will be warm within 5-10 minutes. :)
