Las Vegas is one of the top vacation destinations in the US, but is known to be an adults only kind of place. There is so much to do and see around Las Vegas that is geared towards families and children, and we are here to prove it! Follow our Family Friendly Las Vegas tour, and get some awesome ideas on how to turn “Sin City” into a “Family Party”!
If you’re visiting Las Vegas with some animal lovers, you won’t want to miss out on Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. I took my youngest and brought along my Mom, Sister, and two of her boys to check out the sights at this oasis in the desert!
I want to start out by saying this entire facility is so stroller friendly! Ramps were available to every single corner of the park, and we never had any issues guiding our single and double strollers around (SO IMPORTANT)!
You begin your tour in the Dolphin Habitat. This was hands down our children’s favorite section of the Secret Gardens, and I have to say it was mine too. You get up close and personal with the adorable dolphins that reside there, both above and under the water. There are three pool areas, one that is much larger than the others and includes an underwater viewing area as well as a smaller pool that they use for birthing and research, and one in between the two.
All of the three pools are available to walk right up to and see the dolphins close up. Just make sure you’ve got your little ones close at hand because the sides of the pools are the perfect climbing height for the kiddos. There is a shelf around the inside of the pool that would prevent your child from falling straight into the water but just wanted to give a little heads up.
We made our way into the underwater viewing area, and the kids were just tickled getting to see the dolphins swim around! There are several windows with different angles, so no matter where the dolphins are swimming (except for the birthing pool), you can see them! This was especially fun when the dolphins would swim up close to the windows.
Throughout the day, trainers work with the dolphins, and you might get to see some really fun jumps and spins! We were able to watch the end of one of the training sessions and had such fun watching the dolphins jump and flip around!
From the Dolphin Habitat, you then move on to the Secret Garden…where the big cats are!
Enter a jungle of Leopards, Panthers, Tigers (golden and white), and Lions (along with white lions) when you step foot into the Secret Garden. The animals all ranged from relaxed and sleeping to playful, and the kids loved seeing such a range of big cats in different shapes and colors! We were lucky enough to come on the Leopard’s birthday, and it was happily playing with a wrapped present of catnip (from what the trainer told us).
The White Tigers and White Lions were a vision. Not something we get to see at our local zoo, so it was such a fun thing to share with our kids. My son is currently all about tigers, so he was growling at them and was just thrilled to be able to see them in person!
This facility is all outdoors. Choose a day that isn’t too hot (we went in early November, and the weather was just about perfect!), and make sure to wear sunscreen and bring water. Cold water stations are available throughout the park, so you can get some with their complimentary cups or refill your own as you go!
It isn’t very large. Take your time going through the park! There is a lot to enjoy and learn as you go, but it isn’t a very big area, so don’t come expecting to spend the day.
Come just after lunch. Right now, there are baby tiger cubs that they bring out to play after lunch! Don’t miss out on the cuteness!
This is a great spot to take your family when you are visiting Las Vegas, so make sure to add it to your to-do list!
