Freedom ~30 Days of Thanksgiving day 25

ByKendra Stamy Updated onJanuary 30, 2023 Home and Garden
Two kinds of freedom: 1kind only a few have, but the other kind, anyone can have

In America, the amount of freedom we have is such a blessing.

Two kinds of freedom: 1kind only a few have, but the other kind, anyone can have

John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

In America Christians can join together for worship without fear. We can meet in each others homes, we can meet in church houses, we can even meet in public places like a park. We don’t need to fear authorities, or what may happen if they enter our place of worship, in fact they are welcome to come.

I think that too many times, we take for granted the freedom we experience. The pilgrims kept the first thanksgiving, thanking God for getting them safely to the new world and for providing for them. By why did the pilgrims travel to a new world? Many of them came for freedom to worship God without the state stepping in and mandating how, when and where they worshiped.

So likewise, we should also be thankful that almost 400 years later, we still have freedom of religion.

There is another type of freedom too. This is a freedom that all Christians experience even if they do not have freedom to worship God.

The Christian is free from the reigning power of sin.  As a new creation in Christ we are considered dead to sin. Yes, our mortal bodies are still tempted and sometimes we fail, but we are free from sin.

Romans 6 explains this very well. vs 14 says “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.” By yielding ourselves to grace and obedience to Christ, we are no longer slaves to sin.

Freedom is a blessed thing. We often forget to be thankful for religious freedom, and I think I too often forget that I am also free from sin.

I want to remember to thank God for the freedom we have in the country, and also the freedom he has given us through the death and resurrection of his son Jesus Christ.
