Do you ever see moms and just wonder how they do it?  Today Bridget is sharing “How I Survive a Full House”.  She is the blogger behind Becoming a Godly Wife, and I am so happy to have her here today.

As a mom of 4 kids most of which are 3 and under I am often asked how do I keep everything moving so smoothly? So when given the chance to tell you all a bit a bout my routines that keep us moving along semi smoothly I jumped at the chance to tell you………..

How I Survive A Full House…….

How I survive a full house, tips and tricks from Becoming a Godly Wife

Let me start out with saying it has not always been a smooth run. I often went to bed feeling exhausted with what seemed to be nothing accomplished. I literally seemed to be running around in circles. Lets face it trying to keep out homes clean is a job in it’s self. Throw in children and then watch out world cause Momma is going to have a hard time trying to balance everything that is expected. But I am here to give you hope and hopefully some kind of way to inspire you to find your own routine.

Good Morning

I like to sneak out of bed at 6 am mainly because I like to beat the household rush and get a little momma alone time first thing in the morning. I call it my hour of power. During this time I use it to do my devotions and write in my prayer journal while sipping on my first cup of coffee. I have found my day runs so much smoother if I take this time and can I just say my day never seems to run right when miss this most important step. I from there start at least one load of laundry , get dressed for the day ( I have never been able to accomplish anything without being dressed in regular clothes) and start breakfast. Once these things are done it is time to wake up the house or at least the kids anyway.

Breakfast with the kids as always been important to me mainly because it is during that time that with our older son I go over all the days plans with him. Then all 5 of us together can have a short devotion together. I wanted and felt it was important to get them in the habit of devoting the first portion of their day to God as well. We then all work together to get the kitchen cleaned back up and I lay out whatever may need to be laid out for dinner.

Kid Time:

Once we are done with breakfast I like to have a bit of kid time. This time is sole for them. There are no televisions on or no phones for that matter. It is then that we do a craft, play with toys, read stories, sing silly songs or whatever the mood hits us to do. I have found for my home at least as long as I give them this time of having me all to themselves that when it is time for me to do my daily tasks then they are more into playing at this point that they will let me sneak off for a few minutes at a time so I can actually accomplish something.

Daily Tasks:

I have my week set up for certain things each week some of week came from FlyLady and some of which that worked better for my house.

  • Monday – A home blessing hour. This includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping beds, dusting and washing the inside of the windows.
  • Tuesday- I sit down and map out all the activities and the food menu for the following week. I also take this time to do blog planning as well.
  • Wednesday- I clean out the fridge from top to bottom. Nothing worse than finding scary moldy food in the back of the fridge.
  • Thursday- I do a second home blessing hour. Mainly I do this twice because my family is to big for it to stay nice and fresh without me doing it twice.
  • Friday- This is more of an errand day for me. If I have any shopping that needs to be done then Friday is my day.
  • Saturday – We have reserved this day to visit family.
  • Sunday- This is a day we fill with Church and resting up for the next week ahead.

Nap Time:

At lunch time in our home we all eat lunch together. The children get a story and are tucked in for nap. It is then that I will do my more time consuming tasks such as folding laundry, cleaning the bathroom, cleaning up my bedroom and things of that nature. I also try to check in on my emails and blog during this time. After all this is done I like to sneak in a little mommy time to read or do something just for me.

Dinner Time Is Almost Near:

Once the children get up from nap they have a snack. We then go outside for a bit longer. From there it is time to get dinner going. We are very big on eating dinner together as a family. We all then help with kitchen clean up one more time. The kids are given a bath and everyone’s clothes are laid out for the next day. We have a bit more family time together. A final pick up of toys is done. Then it is off to dream land the little ones go.

Nighty Night

Once the little ones are in bed. My husband and I try to make sure to have at least an hour to discuss the days we have had. We also find it important to have this time together to just relax a bit before bed. I hit the showers, set my coffee pot, write in my prayer journal then drift off to dream land.

This is how I survive a full house and I hope that in some way this has been helpful to you. That maybe from this. you can come up with your own ideas for getting yourself and your family into it’s own routine. There is never a right or wrong routine as long as it works for your family.

Until Next Time Just Keep Soaring 4 Him,
