How to find my Identity…
How does one find their identity? Is it in the family they were born into, the career they have chosen, their spouse, their church? Do you feel like you don’t have a personal identity and wonder how to find it? Maybe you have even Googled “How to find my identity”.
Here’s the thing: If you are looking to identify with someone or something, then you are completely normal. You were created to identify with your creator. Created to seek out something or someone in which you can say “this is me, this is who I am”.
No matter who a person is they will identify themselves with something.
We all want to know who we are, where we came from and what our purpose is. No matter race, religion, financial status, family status or anything else, we want to know our purpose.
I heard this said in a debate once: “We all want to know who we are and where we came from, and the difference between Christians and atheists is that Christians know.
It sounds a little presumptuous of Christians to say that, but here’s the thing. If you are holding the Holy Bible in your hands and you belief with all your heart and soul that it is the inspired word of God, then you have already found your true identity.
If I ever wondered how to find my identity, God’s word makes it clear:
- I am created by God. Ephesians 2:10
- I am chosen by God. Colossians 3:12
- I am adopted as his daughter. Romans 8:14
- Forgiven of my sins. Colossians 2:13
- Raised up from this earth. Ephesians 2:6
- An example to others. Matthew 5:16
- Free from my past. John 8:36
- Justified. Romans 3:24
- Given eternal life. Romans 6:23
Why is it important to establish our identity in Christ?
It’s simple. Only God never changes. Finances, jobs, family, appearance, they all change. At some point even you yourself will change in various ways. Find and establish your identity in Christ and you will always have roots.
Take the how to find my identity challenge: In the comments below, share one word that you believe identifies you in Christ. It can be one I’ve mention above, or one you come up with. As well, why not share this with your friends and challenge them?
Here is my word: Princess. As a daughter of the most high king, through adoption in Jesus Christ, I am a princess. I identify in that. <3
