How to Protect Your Wood Surfaces in Style!

ByKendra Stamy Updated onJanuary 30, 2023 DIY, Home and Garden

This post brought to you by Duck Brand. All opinions are 100% mine.

My baker’s rack recently got a small make over, keep reading to see what I did and learn how to protect your wood surfaces in style!

How to Protect your Wood Surfaces in Style!

I have a beautiful bakers rack in my kitchen. A classic iron framework and a cherry colored finish. It makes the perfect plant stand for my house plants.

However, I’ve been noticing some spots on the finish. Water spills, dirt spills and then scratches from the pots being moved around and grinding the dirt in. Even frequent cleanings weren’t working to keep the surface nice.

How to Protect your Wood Surfaces in Style:

I was sent two different rolls of the new Duck Brand’s Shelf Liner  to try out. I didn’t want something permanant on my bakers rack, but I did want some protection.

One of the rolls I received was perfect. A classy design that I love, smooth top and grippy bottom. Best thing was that it wasn’t permanent!

The smooth top liner is the one I’m referring to. It has a green design, and green is one of the colors you find quite a bit of in my kitchen!

Using the liner couldn’t have been easier. I rolled it out, marked where I needed to cut, cut it and laid it down. No sticking needed. The grippy bottom holds it right in place. The smooth top is also amazing. I will be able to easily wipe off the water and dirt messes from my plants.

The other shelf liner I received is also non stick and grippy. However it doesn’t have a smooth top. One use for this style of liner is to cut it the size of your non stick skillets and put the liner inside when storing your pans. This protects from a lot of necessary scratches.

I actually had an even better use for this liner. 🙂

The photo above is of my high chair. We have limited space in our kitchen so I opted for a high chair that you strapped to a regular chair. Now, this high chair has 4 grippers on it, but as you can see in the photo, the front two grippers aren’t even on the chair.

I was afraid this would lead to the high chair sliding around and posing a risk to baby, not to mention how it could scratch the surface of my chair.

Again, it was an easy fix. I laid out the liner, marked and cut it.

Such a pretty design and I like how the color actually matched my high chair!

After strapping down the high chair, I tried to wiggle it around and it wouldn’t budge. I love knowing that it’s firmly in place and that baby will be safe here. It doesn’t hurt at all, that what I used is also very appealing to the eyes. 🙂

I went onto the Duck® Brand website because I wanted to see what all designs they had. One of my favorites was a smooth top liner that looked a lot like marble. That would be a very neat liner for open white shelves. Another cool idea I noticed what the smooth top liners also made great placemats!
