Just My Son and I

ByKendra Stamy Updated onJanuary 30, 2023 Faith & Family
We made memories that day. Just my son and I.

It was a busy day. I didn’t have to go to work that day, but still got up at 6:30 to get started on my chores.

The to-do list was a mile long. Food needed prepared so we could eat. Laundry needed washed so we wouldn’t need to wear dirty clothes. And the house needed cleaned because one can only take so much dirt, mud, dust and cat hair.

So I worked. It was just my son and I in the house and he played under my feet. After awhile he cried under my feet until I changed him, fed him and put him down for a nap.

We made memories that day. Just my son and I.

And I kept working.

When he woke up, we did a little project together, just my son and I. Photos and a post were due in two days so I tried to work that into my day as well.

We kept busy, just my son and I. He was definitely in my way and slowed me down a lot, but I loved his presence although it seemed as though I ignored him.

Afternoon is wearing on and things are looking good. Still a few things on my list, but I am tired.

Tired of stepping around my son. Tired of not giving him my full attention. Tired of hearing him cry to be played with. Tired of working like a slave in a home that never appreciates it.

Hat, jackets, and stroller; we were going for a walk. Just my son and I.

The breeze is cool and the sun is warm. We are bumping down the sidewalk and his little squeals and laughs warm my heart. Traffic sounds are around us, dogs barking, people talking and laughing, birds singing. But in the warm sunshine, it’s just my son and I.

The swings call our names so we swing together. He sits on my lap while I swing and sing to him songs of Jesus. Later he enjoys the baby swings on his own.

Later we walk back home, just my son and I. 2 hours have fled by in that time, but that’s okay. At the end of the day, when when I lay him in his bed; I find, just enough time to complete my tasks.

We made memories that day. Just my son and I.
