The Law ~30 Days of Thankfulness day 15

ByKendra Stamy Updated onJanuary 30, 2023 Home and Garden
The law, is it something to be thankful for?

It may seem strange for the law (which was fulfilled by Christ) to be mentioned as something to be thankful for… but read on.

The law, is it something to be thankful for?

Romans 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Without the law, we would not know sin. We would be as a dumb beast fulfilling selfish needs and never knowing the heart of God.

In the garden, there was one law; God had given a commandment not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Without that commandment, there would’ve been nothing wrong with eating of that fruit. However, God had plans for his children and thus he gave us the law so that we could understand his heart.

Without the law sin would still exist, but we wouldn’t know that it was displeasing to God. God gave us the law that we may know how to please him.  Being human, and subject to the willful nature of man, we know how to please God through the law, but couldn’t do it.

The law shows us just how frail we are. Just how sinful, and imperfect we as created humans are. The law also shows us how perfect and upright and powerful God is; it shows us just how much he hates sin.

Finally, the law shows us just how far we really are from the one who created us and loves us so deeply. It put into motion God’s plan to reach down and draw all of his children to him. When the law was put into place, God also put into place events that would someday fulfill the law.

There are also the laws that our earthly leaders put into place. Many times it seems these laws are annoying and troublesome; however, the foundations of these laws were intended to keep us safe and guide us.  For this reason, it is important to pray for our leaders. That they may put into motion laws that are honoring to God.
