Love Loss: 10 Serious Reasons Why So Many Relationships Fail Today
Breakups are usually painful or uncomfortable for everyone, regardless of what caused the end of a relationship. There are endless reasons why a relationship might not work out, but many can be boiled down to a few fundamental issues. In an online forum, thousands of people discussed those reasons, and there were a lot of common dominators.
Do you agree with these reasons why relationships fail? Are any of them dealbreakers for you?
1. Other People’s Opinions
One user said that “allowing outside noise” is a big reason relationships fail. Although you may value your family and friends’ opinions, you must draw a line somewhere. If other people’s opinions about your relationship hold more weight than your feelings, that seems like a severe issue.
2. Making the Same “Mistakes”
Nobody is perfect, but if someone keeps doing the same thing repeatedly and never changes, you may reevaluate your relationship. Plus, how many times does someone have to do something before you realize it’s not a mistake; it’s a pattern?
3. Unfair Division of Responsibility
There is no one right way to divide responsibilities in a relationship, but if it’s starting to feel one-sided, it can lead to resentment. Whether you’re planning all the meals and grocery shopping or are entirely responsible for cleaning the house while your partner doesn’t help, an imbalance can lead to a breakup.
4. Self-Sabotaging or Overthinking
One of the common reasons people’s relationships don’t work out is the person’s own thoughts. Between bad past relationships or insecurities, people’s inner demons often lead to sabotaging a relationship that could have otherwise succeeded.
5. Unwillingness to Compromise
You don’t want to lose your entire identity in a relationship, but compromise is still essential. If your partner has asked you to participate in specific tasks, events, or chores and you won’t make any allowances for their needs, maybe you shouldn’t be in the relationship.
6. Changing Over Time
You’re likely to change over time during a long relationship, such as for couples who have been together for years or even decades. While some people manage to stay on their journey, growing and changing together, massive differences may pop up that break the relationship.
7. Making Insufficient Effort
Taking someone out on fancy dates or trying to impress them at the beginning of the relationship is excellent. However, it’s not enough. Both parties must continuously try to connect, work on themselves, and help each other.
8. Social Media & Instant Gratification
Dating apps and the new era of social media are incredibly overwhelming. There’s so much out there that you can reach with one click. Social media is a cause of insecurity for many people, such as who their partner is interacting with or how they behave. Spending too much time on social media can make people overthink or have unrealistic expectations.
9. Poor Communication or Listening Skills
Communication is bound to be a significant issue if a relationship breaks down. However, there are specific communication issues that may be cause for concern. For example, partners who avoid active listening fail to set or follow boundaries or try to turn everything into an argument.
10. Emotional Unavailability or Immaturity
From personal experience, I know that someone’s care or love for you is not enough when one person refuses to be vulnerable. This is especially true for people who are avoidant and tend to feel that they are not worthy of relationships, leading to self-sabotage.
