Memorial Day Musings
Today is a day our country has set aside to honor those who have served our nation. To remember those who have given their life for our freedom. To pray for those who are risking their lives for us right now. I am glad that our country recognizes them.
It brings to my mind though, another time and place where Another gave His life for our freedom. I remember the One who gave up his rightful place as King of the Universe to become like us. How He paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Jesus gave his life, so we can be free from sin, and can have hope of living eternally with Him.
What if here in America we never went out past nine, in fact, we rarely went out at all because we were afraid of being shot down in the streets? What if we had blackouts and were afraid to talk in anything but whispers because spies were ready to report us?
It would be silly right? There are brave men and women who have fought or are fighting for our freedom. We don’t have to live in fear because of their sacrifices.
It’s the same with the sacrifice Christ made when he gave his life for us. We Have Hope! Yet so many people are hopeless; they can’t accept that the gift of life is free to those who believe. They say “I’m not good enough”, “I don’t deserve it”, and “no one can love me”. Do we say that about our earthly freedom? “I don’t deserve to live in a free country, I’m going to go live in another country because I don’t deserve this freedom”. Of course, we don’t, we accept our freedom and honor those who made it possible.
So why can’t it be the same with eternal life? No, we don’t deserve it, but the gift is free, take it. Accept that you can have eternal life and freedom from sin, and then honor the One who made it possible.
Have a blessed day and be safe.
