10 “Secret Regrets” Women Confessed They Wished They’d Never Done

ByBen Rice Updated onMay 21, 2023 Trending
Woman comparing.

Every woman has regrets — even those who say they have none. You are fooling nobody, ladies! It is difficult to admit that a life-altering decision was a wrong one.

Someone is asking for insights into women’s biggest secret regrets — an online confession box, if you like.

Thankfully, social media avatars act as the screen between these sisters’ confessions and their real-life social circles.

Some of the admissions in this discussion are sad at best and tragic at worst. Here are ten takeaways from the world of female regret.

1. I Had Children

Raising children is the hardest job in the world — motherhood is not for all women. One mom concedes that “the extreme, emotional, physical, and financial tolls” are not rewarded nearly enough. That is tough, but I understand: a mother’s job is thankless.

2. The Wrong Man

“Wasted my 20s with a man who did not give a hoot about me,” laments one commenter. “My gut knew it, and I kept trying.” This scenario is common and heartbreaking when couples have children in a toxic marriage.

3. Higher Education

A college graduate reveals how she regrets flying blind into higher education. She had no idea what she wanted to be, how she wanted to live, or how her degree would benefit her. Another regretful student says, “Major(ed) in political science – basically basket weaving if you don’t want to go to law school or go into politics or teach these days.”

4. I Put On Weight

Whether it was a bad diet as a pre-teen or not working on those post-pregnancy pounds, many women say their weight causes them grief. “Not getting help with my eating disorder sooner” is only one of many regrets in this thread.

5. I Was Used

Another divorcee shares how her husband forced her into an open relationship, leading to an eight-year abusive relationship. Thankfully, she bounced back. “(I am) in a traditional exclusive relationship for about eight years now,” she beams, “with an amazing house, small hobby farm, and stable career.” Good for her.

6. I Got Attached Too Young

One story raised even my eyebrows. A girl recounts having a boyfriend at 14 years, for whom she left high school. What’s worse is the age difference: he was 23 years old. “I was with that sicko for four years,” she admits. Is this guy behind bars yet?

7. Got Latex?

Have you ever thought you went a bit mad with the last shopping trip? That was what happened to one sister with a penchant for rubber in this amusing side story. “Buy(ing) those four latex suits,” she comments on her regret. “One or two would have been good enough.” Each to their own, I say.

8. I Started Smoking

“Easily the dumbest thing I have ever done in my life,” recalls a regretful ex-smoker. “I had no idea how much it was impacting my health and my mood until I stopped.” The good news is that smoking rates are falling, no doubt a result of higher prices and better information.

9. I Bought a House

Owning a house is a sound investment, though it comes at a huge cost to your time and finances. “I was never taught that a house is like a second job,” complains a homeowner. With maintenance costs, interest rates, and upkeep, some people find it overwhelming.

10. I Got A Dog

Some dog owners say owning a dog is like raising a child, so anyone looking to add a furry family member should heed this advice. One owner adores their pooch but explains how “he has limited my opportunities to travel and meet friends.” She continues, “I should’ve waited until 30 or later when I was ready to settle down.”

This thread inspired this post.
