My Nanny Bought Books For My Daughter Without Asking

Ruby recently discovered the original Star Trek show and The Next Generation. As an avid reader, Ruby has started to collect old Star Trek books that she finds in used bookstores and thrift stores.

Her long-time nanny, Tessa, knows Ruby’s passion and often helps her find the books she wants in thrift stores. But a recent incident puts their relationship to the test.

A Stack of 35 Books

Tessa went on a family vacation out west and found a stack of about 35 books for Ruby. Without confirming the cost with Ruby or her mother, Meg, Tessa bought the books and asked Ruby if she wanted them.

Ruby said yes, not realizing the implications of the purchase. When Tessa returned and told Ruby that the books cost $50, Ruby could not pay for them, and Tessa asked Meg to cover the cost.

However, Meg refused to pay, arguing that Tessa should have clarified the price before purchasing.

Since she got them from a thrift store, Tessa could not return the books, leaving everyone in a difficult situation.

No Way to Return

Ruby is upset, and Meg is torn between feeling responsible for Tessa’s financial burden and believing that Tessa should have been more responsible for her actions.
