Matthew Perry, Beloved ‘Friends’ Actor, Dies at 54 in Apparent Drowning

Matthew Perry, renowned for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the hit ’90s sitcom “Friends,” has passed away at the age of 54.

Early reports indicate that he may’ve drowned at his Pacific Palisades residence. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, with emergency services responding to a 911 call at 4:07 p.m. local time, treating it as a water rescue.

Despite the swift response, no one was transported to the hospital. 

The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division was also in attendance later that evening, although an LAPD source was very clear that there were absolutely no signs of foul play.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of Perry’s death.

Perry, a beloved figure in the entertainment industry, rose to fame through his role as Chandler Bing, a character known for his sarcastic wit and humorous one-liners.

“Friends,” which aired from 1994 to 2004, became a cultural phenomenon, dominating prime time television alongside other popular shows like “Seinfeld.” Perry’s career also saw him appear in a variety of other successful shows, including “Boys Will Be Boys,” “Growing Pains,” “Beverly Hills, 90210,” “The West Wing,” and “Scrubs.”

Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, Perry was once a top-ranked tennis player competing in Canadian juniors before he decided to leave the sport behind and pursue acting at the age of 15.
