2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro: Adventure Awaits

A couple weeks ago I had the opportunity to drive the 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Pro for a week. This was the first 4 wheel drive vehicle I had driven in quite a few years and I couldn’t wait to take it down the coast to Monterey, California.

With the black-bezel headlight and bold front grille, you can tell the 4Runner TRD Pro is a beast and made for some real adventures. 

A 1/4-inch TRD-stamped aluminum front skid plate helps toughen things up underneath, and the lightweight 17-inch matte black TRD alloy wheels are wrapped in 31.5-in. Nitto Terra Grappler all-terrain tires for maximum traction on road or off.

This 4Runner TRD Pro packs a powerful 4.0-liter, 270-horsepower V6 engine. With its standard multi-terrain Select, Crawl Control and an electronic locking rear differential, it’ll help give the traction you need to power through anything tough.

With its TRD-tuned suspension, 4Runner TRD Pro can help you deal with the trail ahead. Up front sits a TRD-tuned 2.5-in. TRD Bilstein® coil-over-shock setup matched to TRD-tuned springs. The power the 4Runner TRD Pro has is impressive to say the least but don’t let the power of this vehicle fool you, it can also double as a great family vehicle. Installing car seats in the back were incredibly easy as the LATCH anchors were easily accessible. There is also plenty leg room for the back passengers.

Make your way to the front of the interior and an impressive navigation system awaits you. One of my favorite features on the navigation/entertainment system is actually the ability to add contacts to the touch screen. Being able to add contacts to the touch screen allowed for more eyes on the road as all I had to do was touch a button to make a phone call.

The interior is also equipped with everything you need to make your off-roading experience even easier.

A feature we found incredibly impressive and useful was the sliding rear cargo deck that can support up to 440 lbs. During our trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium we enjoyed our lunch on the cargo deck. It easily slides out to help load heavy objects into the car or for family and friends to enjoy some tailgating whenever you need to stop for a bite to eat.

For such a powerful vehicle, I was pleasantly surprised when I averaged over 18 MPG. To say we were impressed with the 4Runner TRD Pro would be an understatement. My husband has never wanted to keep a press vehicle we have driven, and he was truly heart broken when this went away. It’s powerful, comfortable, attractive, and spacious. I am pretty sure the 4Runner TRD Pro has now made the top of his list for a future vehicle for our family.
