Alice in Wonderland Dress

I had seen these adorable tutu dresses online, and I knew I had to make one for my daughter’s birthday.  I bought a crochet headband from the baby section of Hobby Lobby, light blue and white tulle, ribbon, and a couple of red heart buttons.

I began by measuring my daughter from her feet to her chest.  Then I doubled that amount and cut the tulle to that length. This was definitely the most time consuming part, but it was certainly easy enough.

Next, I pulled the strips of tulle through the holes in the bottom two rows of the crochet headband and tied them on.  Her dress was coming together!

The last step was to add the straps.  I wanted to use thick fabric over both shoulders to cover her up a bit so I simply tied the ribbon through the front and back of the headband.  Then I added her heart-shaped buttons and it was complete!

Queen of Hearts Dress

I made her dress rather early, and I was hoping she’d be walking by party time.  She wasn’t so I knew she needed a more practical outfit to play in.  So that’s where outfit number 2 comes in.

For this one I used a zebra print iron-on transfer.  I cut out the number 1 and ironed it on to a white shirt.  I also found a black and white teacup transfer, and I put that on next.  I outlined everything with red fabric paint, then wrote “Queen of Mom and Dad’s Hearts” on the back.  Her wonderful nanny made her a tutu and outfit number 2 was all put together!

Mad Hatter Hat

The last part of her outfit was the most important and definitely my favorite… the hat!  I found an awesome tutorial on YouTube.  I made a few modifications to the size and color, and in a few hours I had the perfect party hat!
