Being Good Stewards with What God has Given

What does it mean to be a good steward? What do we do with blessings God has so richly bestowed upon us?
Being Good Stewards with What God has Given.
What has God given you? $10,000s a month, $1,000s a month, or just $100s a month? Do you know that no matter how hard you work for your income, it’s still given to you by God? I know that in my heart, but sometimes my head tries to tell me otherwise. Like when it seems like the money is to little and he wants are to many. I forget that the God who cares for the sparrows will care for me.
Regardless of how much or little you receive, we are called to be good stewards with what God has given to us. What does being a good steward mean? I had to think that one over in my head for a long time. Finally I had to look up the meaning because I really wasn’t sure. I had an idea, but wanted to know the actual definition.
According to Merriam-Webster here is one definition: One employed in a large household or estate to manage domestic concerns (as the supervision of servants, collection of rents, and keeping of accounts)
It makes sense, we are given the money by God, to manage wisely. In fact I like the term “keeping of accounts” that Merriam Webster uses. Keeping accounts would mean you know what is going on. You know what is coming in and what is going out.
So a wise steward keeps track of his money, knowing what he spends and what he earns. Whereas a foolish steward would not.
Keeping track. How easy is it for a $20 to burn a hole all the way through your pocket? As far as I am concerned, way to easy! How about plastic? When the cash is gone, you know it’s gone, but with a credit card you can essentially spend money you don’t have. Many people see getting rid of credit cards as the answer. I don’t see it as such. To me, the answer to being a good steward with what God has given, is to keep a strict account of my finances. In a later post, I will share just how I do this.
Most of this month I will be focusing on how we save money. We fall into a lower income bracket and I do have to work outside the home at the moment. (Although, I work more than necessary because I can, and it’s nice to have extra.) While what we do, will not work for every one, it may give you ideas on how you can make your income last a little longer.
And maybe you are wondering what any of this has to do with being a Proverbs 31 Wife. If you look at Proverbs 31:16-25, you will see where she considereth a field and buys it to plant a vineyard, she makes linen and sells it…. reading through that passage, one thing is very clear to me. The Proverbs 31 woman is money wise, she knows to invest and sell. So we wives should take lessons from her and start being good stewards with what God has given us.
