Blackberry Coconut Birds Nest Cookies
We love movie night in our home. We tend to find a cozy spot for us to all watch and have fun snacks. The kids’ favorite is to all snuggle up on mom & dad’s bed. It’s kind of a special spot for us all to be together and the kids love that we allow them to eat their treats in bed-something we don’t usually do! It makes for amazing memories and guarantees lots of giggles.
We are so excited about our Boss Baby family movie night…the boys’ new favorite movie, now out on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital HD! We saw it in the theater and they’ve been on pins and needles ever since waiting for it to come out to buy for our home.
We decided that for our Boss Baby night we would make some fun cookies that were inspired by my favorite aspects of the movie:
One of the comforts for Timothy was the song Blackbird- the lullaby his parents sing to him every night, but when the new baby comes in and takes over as Boss, Timothy feels neglected because his parents also sing his favorite lullaby to the baby as well. In the end, the two boys connect over that same lullaby.
Also? According to the Boss Baby, “Cookies are for closers.”
We made “Blackbird’s Nest Cookies” for our movie night and they’re as delicious as they are cute! Buttery shortbread covered in toasted coconut and topped with a sweet blackberry jam makes for the perfect treats to enjoy The Boss Baby.
I whipped these cookies up pretty quick by modifying one of my mom’s cookie recipes but amped them up to make them Boss Baby worthy!
We dipped each cookie in coconut (make sure to really press it onto the cookie) and then topped each one with blackberry jam. Feel free to use another fruit flavor if you don’t like blackberry.
The coconut toasts up in the oven and add a delicious crunch to these tasty little treats, but more importantly it makes them look like little bird nests!
The cookie base is soft and buttery and the combination of that with the crunchy toasted coconut and the sweet jam will knock the socks off of your little ones!
My boys are constantly at odds and often feel like one (or both) of their brothers is the enemy. Just like Timothy and the Boss Baby, they have their fair share of fights and annoyances with each other. But then we have moments like this…
When we get together as a family and enjoy our time together, the boys all forget the reasons they were fighting and life becomes sweet.
I love that The Boss Baby puts the struggle that brothers (and all siblings) go through into a context that all three of my boys can understand while making them giggle uncontrollably all together. Hearing them recite “Uhhhhh, Goo Goo Ga Ga!” in unison makes all the crumbs on my bed worth it.
Your family is going to love following the story of Timothy and his new baby brother in The Boss Baby. It’s funny, adventurous and heartwarming and if your kids are anything like mine they’ll be quoting it all the time!
The Boss Baby is out now on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital HD, plan your family movie night with your kiddos and these Blackbird’s Nest Cookies!
