Creating Summer Family Traditions

Creating Summer Family Traditions 4

I participated in this sponsored campaign on behalf of Dixie. All opinions stated are my own.

Creating Summer Family Traditions

Summer time is our family’s favorite time of the year. The kids are out of school, the weather’s gorgeous, and the sun stays out late. Growing up we never had any family traditions during the summer so once I became a mom I knew I wanted to start create summer family traditions of our own. I think it is so important to make these traditions, as it will be something the kids look back  on as adults and cherish.

One of our biggest family traditions we do during summer is our Annual Risso Family Camping Trip. This is something we have been doing since my oldest was just a couple months old. We go every summer and choose a new location every year- whether it’s a lake, beach, woods, mountain, or desert- living in California sure gives us many choices to choose from.

A couple of months before our big camping trip we pull out a map and choose our location. Then the planning begins and our annual camping shirts are designed and ordered (yes, shirts are a must).

Being able to spend four days with my family camping is something I look forward to doing. During the year we are all always so busy with work, school, sports and more, so this gives us the family bonding time that is much needed. Away from our everyday distractions like television, computers, and phones, we can spend the time together uninterrupted.

Another family tradition we do during the summer is BBQ. What a perfect way to make dinners on a gorgeous night. Something about the smell in the air gets the kids excited for BBQing. Every weekend we head to the store and the kids get to choose meat they want grilled. Then we head home and start the cooking while the kids run around and play in the backyard. The laughter, food, and drinks are a great way to spend time together and savor the summer.

Here are some ideas for your family to create your own summer traditions:

  • Family camping Trips
  • Destination family vacations
  • Amusement park trips
  • Pool parties
  • BBQ’s
  • Family Reunions
  • Road Trips
  • Visiting different baseball parks
  • Visiting a new state every summer
