DIY: Mickey Mouse Door Hanger
I seriously love having door hangers for the birthday parties I throw. They are the first thing your guests see and really sets the mood for the theme you are throwing. A few months ago I showed you the tutorial for the letter door hanger I made for my son’s birthday. I used the same concept for my son’s Mickey Mouse party except I used a Mickey Mouse shape instead of a letter! This was so much fun to make and I can’t wait to show it to you all. It can be easily customized for any age and you can even add an adorable bow for a Minnie Mouse door hanger! Let’s get started!
What you will need:
- 2 packages of Tissue (1 package of black + 1 package colors of your choice for number)
- Hot glue gun
- Cardboard
- Ribbon
- 2 bowls of different size- this will be used for Mickey head and Mickey ears
Step 1: Take the bigger sized bowl and trace it onto your cardboard. Take the smaller bowl and add on the Mickey ears.
Step 2: Trace a number to represent the age your child will be turning. My son was turning two, so we did a two. After tracing, cut your cardboard pieces out. Be sure to cut out the shape of Mickey’s head WITH ears still attached. Don’t cut out individual circles. Then glue the number onto the middle of your Mickey head.
Step 3: Using my Letter Door Hanger Tutorial, start making your colored tissue flowers and glue them onto the number only, until you have the number completely covered in colored tissue flowers.
Step 4: Start making the black tissue flowers and gluing them onto the mickey head, covering any cardboard you see. Be sure to leave some space at the very top of Mickey’s head though.
Step 5: With the flowerless part at the top, find the center and puncture two holes. Thread your ribbon through and cover the rest of the space with more black tissue flowers until you can’t see any more cardboard. Make sure to leave the ribbon long as you will be using it to hang from your door.
You’re done! Your Mickey Mouse door hanger should now be ready to be displayed on your door (or wall if you prefer)!
