God in the Small Things
The God we serve is an awesome God. He is strong and mighty, great and powerful. It’s easy to tilt one’s head back and look at the expanse of the night sky, or to gaze in awe at the mighty fountains and see God. But do you see God in the small things?
It’s always easy to see God in the mighty, but God is in the small things too.
There are many different sides to this God that we serve; a mighty king, a creator, a holy One, a loving father… All of this is shown in his creation. But I think the loving father is seen the most when we see God in the small things.
Just as Jason and I took great joy in preparing a baby room for Kolton, I think God took great joy in creating this earth for his children. Each item we placed in that small baby room had meaning, we looked forward to our baby being in that room and growing and discovering all the small little details that we took so much time in.
Likewise God has placed so many wonderful things in this world for his children to discover. It’s just little things, you don’t have to be a scientist to find them, but you do need a child like heart and enjoy the thrill of discovery.
Where I find God in the Small Things:
The sweet innocence of a sleeping baby.
The joy in a child’s face at her favorite treat.
The joyful abandon of childhood.
The flower that is found in the apple.
The “fairy” that is found in a pansy.
Does anyone know what that is? Pansies aren’t blooming now and I cannot find a photo or page online about this at all. Basically, if you gently pull off the two lower petals of a pansy you will see what looks like a little lady washing her feet. It’s super cool and I wish I could show you.
The beautiful elegance of a spider’s web.
The purity of a rose.
New life in spring.
The flowers of summer.
The bounty of fall.
The sleeping of winter.
It’s the being aware and looking. It’s the “seek and you will find”. It’s having a heart like a child and seeing the wonders our Father created for us.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
1 Corinthians 1:27
And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; the LORD not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; the LORD not in the earthquake:
And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
And it was, when Elijah heard, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?
1 Kings 19:11-13
If you look, you will find God in the small things!
