Munchkin LATCH Makes Breast to Bottle Transition Smooth
We are proud to be partnering with our sponsor Munchkin to bring you this post.
I am currently breastfeeding my third child. With the first two, I introduced the bottle early on and pumped often to keep an extra supply on hand and allow others to help with feeding them. This time around, I took a different approach. I did introduce a bottle early on, but I’m not pumping nearly as much as I did with my first two, and Charlie has really only used a bottle twice in his 9 weeks of life.
Things are understandably hectic in my house, and while I love nursing on demand exclusively it’s becoming more and more clear that I need to pump and use bottles more often to help me to get more into a routine. Nursing on demand is easy enough, but it’s so hard to keep up with two other children’s routines when baby needs to eat right when I start dinner or get ready to leave to take my oldest to school. I knew it was time to start using bottles more to let my husband help out with feedings the night that we had dinner at 8 o’clock in the evening. My husband is NOT a cook (and not a breastfeeder either, really) and so dinner was on hold until I could feed Charlie. That was the night that he decided he wanted to cluster feed back to back for 2 hours. We ended up feeding the kids snacks until I could finish making dinner, but by then the kids wanted nothing to do with it. They were full. I was crying. I can’t do it all and I want a decent dinner, so I decided it was time to pump more and let my husband handle feedings when I am needed otherwise. PLEASE tell me I’m not the only one who has placed dinner on the table past the kids usual bedtime…
I have been introducing the bottle a little more with Charlie recently and really wanted a bottle that was very similar to the breast since he didn’t have much experience with bottles. Transitioning after 9 weeks of the same thing can be hard, so it was important to make the introduction as smooth as possible. I was thrilled to get to try out the LATCH line of bottles from Munchkin for this move towards using bottles more often.
The Munchkin LATCH bottle was designed to ease babyโs transition from breast to bottle and back. The one-of-a-kind LATCH nipple moves, stretches, and works just like the breast, helping baby latch easily and correctly.
To make the transition easy, bottle flow needs to mimic the flow from the breast. The LATCH bottle was developed with Lactation Consultants and mimics the breast by releasing more milk as baby pushes against the nippleโs base. There are three different nipple flow stages to mimic the different stages, increasing flow as baby grows. The LATCH bottle offers colic relief without the extra pieces and parts. The accordion-style LATCH nipple moves along with baby, allowing them to maintain her latch-decreasing ingestion of air, and the valve located at the bottom of the LATCH bottle reduces gas and fussiness.
I love this video of how the nipple works…
Our introduction of the LATCH bottles was seamless and easy. Baby Charlie took to the bottles right away and has minimal gas. I love that I can help make bottle usage easier on him by using the LATCH bottles so that he is comfortable with the flow and feel of the nipple.
Customize your bottle collection by purchasing the LATCH bottles and different stages of nipples on Munchkin’s Website. The more bottles you buy on their site, you get a discount of up to 15% off your purchase!
While you’re at it, pick up some of the LATCH pacifiers, too! They are a lightweight piece of silicone with a naturally shaped nipple, making it easy for baby to keep in their mouth. Charlie loves them!
