Simple Lightweight Wrap for Babywearing +Giveaway!!!
I’ve posted different photos on Instagram and Facebook of me babywearing. A lot of people have been curious about what I’m using, and asking where I got it. Sooooo, today I’m sharing my simple lightweight wrap for babywearing. Plus… I contacted the gal I bought mine from and she agreed to give one away!!!
*Disclaimer… selfies and other people taking photos of me = less than par photographs. 🙂 I apologize!
For those of you who have happy contented babies, I’m happy for you. For those of you who have colicky babies… well I understand. 🙂
I was 14 when my next to youngest brother was born and he was so colicky. His little tummy must have hurt something awful the way he screamed. I wore him in an old Snuggly carrier a lot because that seemed to help his tummy and I could keep working. The carrier was nice, and could be adjusted somewhat; and since that’s all I had, I liked it.
Fast forward 12 years and I had a baby of my own. While he doesn’t seem to be as bad as his uncle was, my son also deals with an upset tummy. And again, wearing him and walking seems to help the most. But this time around I bought a wrap. I was originally considering a Moby or a Boba wrap, but when I saw the price and realized they were somewhat stretchy I wasn’t sure.
I kept looking for an inexpensive non-stretchy wrap, and ended up on Etsy.
At Grace+Eugene I found a cotton gauze carrier that was perfect. Costing only $27 with lots of colors to choose from. Figuring (correctly) that I would be rather hard on my wrap and it could get pretty dirty, I chose a simple grey color.
Wraps have a slight learning curve to them and you should always have a spotter when learning how to wrap your baby on you. We don’t want dropped babies!
There are lots of ways you can wrap your baby. Just do a quick you-tube search and you will find plenty of instructional videos.
Just because there are dozens of ways to wrap your baby, doesn’t mean you will like them all. Most likely you will try a few and start getting the hang of your wrap. Then, as you and your baby become more comfortable with the babywearing/wrapping process, you will discover what works the best for you.
My favorite is him on the front, facing me. He’s so sweet and snuggly there, and all I have to do is drop my head a bit and I can breathe in his sweet baby smell and kiss his little head. When I wear him this way he usually falls asleep within 15 minutes.
Sometimes I don’t want him to fall asleep. I’ve figured out how to wrap him facing out for those times. To face outward, two things need to happen. Baby’s back needs to be straight or curled in a bit. If mom’s body is shaped in a way that arches the baby’s back, she shouldn’t wear him facing out.
As well, baby needs to be sitting on his little bottom and not dangling by his pelvic bone. This is accomplished by spreading the wrap wide and lifting his knees up. Again you can find videos on you-tube to learn how. Just make sure baby is sitting and not dangling.
The final way I carry him is a back carry. I don’t like it as well, but it is very nice for certain things. This is a carry that I still need to work on. In all reality he’s still too low in these photos, it was only the 3 time I had ever worn him back there.
The main reason I don’t like it is because little man is a spit-up baby and there is nothing quite like hearing a juicy burp and not being able to know if you just got spit-up on until you feel it running down your back!
However, it is very nice to have him on my back when I am cooking and cleaning. I have him with me but he’s not in the way of my work.
I love how durable this wrap is. When we were camping I put little k in it and went into the lake even.
It’s been spit-up on, I’ve dripped food on it from cooking while wearing him, it’s been dropped on the ground by mistake and washed who knows how many times. To be honest? It still looks like new every time I pull it out of the dryer!
I’ve posted a video of my favorite way to wear little k. Pulled snug enough, this wrap doesn’t pull too hard on my back and is as lightweight and cool as a wrap can be.
