The Best Sweet Potato Casserole
Every year I look forward to Thanksgiving just like the rest of us-I mean…the Turkey, the gravy, the mashed potatoes, the green bean casserole, it’s all you could ask for in the perfect family meal!
We all have our staples at the Thanksgiving dinner table, recipes that we either are asked to make because it’s our specialty or recipes that are passed down over the years that just make the dinner so much more special.
For my family, it’s sweet potato casserole. Not just any sweet potato casserole, the BEST.
Years and years ago, I was at my grandparents for Thanksgiving and my mom put some of my aunt’s sweet potato casserole on my plate. Being young and picky, I refused to eat this new mushy brown-orange colored food. My mom assured me that I would love it, that I just needed to taste it. After more prodding, I finally tasted the casserole and the rest is history. I ended the day asking my aunt if she would give my mom the recipe so that we could make it at home, and I’ve been making it for every special occasion since.
Every single time I make it for guests, they ask for the recipe and it’s requested that I bring it when we are invited to Thanksgiving at someone else’s house.
It’s. That. Good.
My kids always say that it’s dessert that they get with their dinner so that’s the way I describe it to people. It’s the perfect sweet side to go with your deliciously savory turkey dinner! This recipe is perfect for 5-6 people but at Thanksgiving I double or triple the recipe so that we can feed everyone and still have leftovers! If you do double/triple it, double the baking time as well.
I hope your family loves it as much as mine does:
