The Very Banana Caterpillar
I love to find ways children can play with their food. Sounds weird, I know! But I’ve found if children are given to opportunity to be involved in the food-making process, they are more likely to eat it. Your child is sure to gobble up this yummy banana! The Very Banana Caterpillar is a fun, nutritional activity that’s great for a snack, and can work for children of all ages! I recently did this activity with a group of four- and five-year-olds and it went over very well!
- Banana
- Butter knife
- Pretzels
- Peanut butter
- Raisins
Steps:
- Cut the banana into many circles. Don’t be afraid to let children as young as three or four use the butter knife to cut it—using a butter knife to cut a banana is a great way to give a preschooler the chance to practice cutting skills!
- Add peanut butter to each circle to connect the banana slices.
- Add pretzel sticks as the caterpillar legs and raisins for the eyes.
And there you have it—The Very Banana Caterpillar!
