All Natural Baby Shampoo Recipe

ByKendra Stamy Updated onJanuary 30, 2023 Faith & Family, Healthy Living

Awhile back I ordered a baby bath blend of herbs from the Bulk Herb Store. It smelled amazing and was intended that you make infusions and pour the infusions into the baby’s bath water. While it’s likely I will do that for older babies to help calm them, I also plan on using it to make an all natural baby shampoo.

All natural baby shampoo recipe. Herbal infused water and castile soap make a wonderful natural shampoo or body wash. Recipe found here...

All Natural Baby Shampoo Recipe:

  • 2 ounces  Dr. Bronners -Organic Pure-Castile baby Soap
  • 4-5 ounces of water infused with Baby Bath Blend
  • 1 teaspoon Jojoba Oil You can add more if you suffer from extremely dry skin
  • 10 drops of essential oil if desired

Measure 3 tablespoons of the baby bath blend into the bottom of a pint jar. Pour boiling water over the herbs, filling the jar a little over the top. Allow the herbs to infuse for at least two hours (4-5 is better).

Once the infusion is complete, strain out the herbs and save 4-5 ounces of the infusion. Any that’s leftover can be poured into a tub for a relaxing bath for you. 🙂

For baby’s bath soap I highly recommend lavender as your essential oil. It has the softest smell and is wonderful on skin. If you have rose absolute, you could also add no more than 2 drops.
I made a batch for myself to use as body wash, and choose to add doTerra’s “Breathe” blend.

Pour the Castile soap, the jojoba oil and essential oil, into the herbal infusion and gently swirl. This is best done with a knife because you can swirl without creating too much suds and bubbles.

I poured mine into an old shampoo container. You can do whatever suits you best.

Keep in mind, this doesn’t have any preservatives in it so the longest you can expect to keep it around is a month. In the fridge it will likely keep longer.

Obviously I don’t have a baby to wash with it yet, but I wanted to make sure it would make up nicely ahead of time, and I wanted to try it as a body-wash for myself. 🙂  Once the baby comes, I will give it a good trial run and them come back with an update. 🙂

As far as the body wash goes, I find it lovely, it bubbles up quite nicely and leave my skin feeling clean and refreshed. I think the herbal blend alone would refresh nicely, but the Breathe blend of eo. really leaves a cool refreshed feeling.

A brief look at the herbs in the baby bath blend

Lavender: Soothing and calming, very good for easing headaches, and also supposed to help one sleep better.

Yarrow Flowers: Soothing to skin and opens pores, helps with circulation, also helps ward off fevers and colds.

Rose Petals: Rose is wonderful for skin, it’s supposed to refresh and tone.

Rosemary: In shampoos it helps prevent baldness, the smell has a calming effect and can even help work against depression.

Together these herbs are soothing to skin and calming to fussy babies. I’m really hoping my all natural baby shampoo will work great for our little ones. But in the mean time I am really enjoying my herbal body wash. 🙂
