Beach Vacation Shadow Box ~How to!
While in the Keys we made sure to hit the beach and while there, we also collected shells. Today I’m sharing how I made a beach vacation shadow box!
Ah yes, it looks so nice doesn’t it?! 🙂
What you will need:
Beach Vacation Shadow Box
A shadow box
Photos
Paper
Glue
Shells
Sand
Anything else that you may have picked up while on vacation and want to add.
So for my vacation shadow box I went to Hobby Lobby to see how much they would cost. Thinking maybe I would make my own box if they were to expensive. Well, as it turns out, the boxes they had were 50% off at the time so I just bought one. I didn’t think I could make it any cheaper.
The color was a weird like green, that the photo doesn’t show at all. But no problem there, I distressed it just like I did this frame. Nice huh?
Step two would be to gather up everything available for use in the shadow box.
Once you have your supplies, it’s time to start placing. I laid everything out before I glued. A mixture of hot glue and tacky glue was used to hold the shells and such in place.
Next it’s time to work on the back. I decided to only use one photo and I matted it with scrap-booking paper. 🙂 But, you can use several photos and make it a collage if you want to. The lighting washed out the paper so you cannot hardly see the colors, but I used green, peach, and blue to matte with.
Keeping the shadow box lying on its face, I poured 1/2 cup of sand inside, along the bottom. Then I put in some small shells also. Taped the backing to the back of the box and shut it. Voila!
My mom has a vinyl cutter and she cut the words Florida Keys 2013 in white vinyl, which finished the look wonderfully.
I love the way my box turned out! My bathroom already have an ocean theme with the colors I have chosen and the shells I put up. Now, this box just ties it all in and well, makes me smile every time I enter the bathroom! Yes, I know that sounds bad lol.
Have you ever made a vacation shadow box?
