No Sew Sleep Sack for Toddlers – Family Movie Night with Tax Savings

We recently used some of our tax refund to upgrade our phones and service through Walmart Family Mobile. The Upgrade came with a free (valued at $7 same as a new release rental) monthly movie credit through VUDU so I thought it would be fun to plan a special family movie night and include the toddler since he’s getting old enough to enjoy a good movie.
After buying my new phone I “just happened” to walk through the craft section and discovered fleece fabric on sale. Such a good sale, that my brain immediately began wondering how I could put some of it to use.
The family movie night came to mind and I decided the fleece would make a perfect no sew sleep sack for toddlers. One toddler in particular came to mind!
It all started with the savings I found by using Walmart Family Mobile as our cell phone provider.
Investing some of our tax refund into my blog and direct sales business means making sure I have a good phone and plenty of data available for updating social media, helping customers and more.
Of course, this is a pretty good investment even for the personal side of my phone use. (Talking to my mom for hours, sending photos of the boys to family etc.)
The Samsung Galaxy On5 was $119 and I got it on rollback for $69. The Plus Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data plan includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE (then 2g) plus a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value) per line for only $49.88 monthly!
Disclaimer: All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. Please refer to Walmart.com or your local Walmart for current pricing.
Since Family Mobile bills you later, you only have to pay $19.88 for your SIM Kit when you sign up. You can buy a phone like I did, or just bring in an unlocked phone that takes a sim chip.
I love how the VUDU movie credit makes it easy to have a fun family movie night! We don’t often watch movies and we’ve NEVER done a movie night that involved the kids. Time to change that!
But first, some fun preparations!
Making a No Sew Sleep Sack for Toddlers
Assuming your child is average size, this will work for children 2 to 5 years old.
You will need:
- 2 1/2 yards of fleece in a print (60″ wide)
- 2 1/2 yards of fleece in a coordinating solid (60″ wide)
- Scissors
- Straight edge (long ruler, yardstick or something similar)
Begin by using the straight edge and squaring up the edges of your fabric. By the time I squared my fabric all up, I had just under 2 1/4 yards of fabric which was perfect.
Next, cut each piece in half. You should now have 4 pieces of fleece, each 1 1/8 yard, by 60″.
Time to lay out the fabric. Placing the right side down, lay out the first piece of fleece print. Next, place the two pieces of solid fleece over top. Finally, place the print fleece, right side up, on top.
Once you lay it all out, two things will become clear. #1. even though the fabrics are both said to be 60″ wide, clearly this is not the case. And #2. the edges will all need trimmed up.
If there is any type of print along the edge, you will need to trim that off as well. Get all four layers squared up and even on all sides. Then begin making your “fringe cuts” 1 inch wide by 3-4 inches deep. Do this all the way around your sleep sack.
Time to start tying. Begin in the middle of one side, tie all the way down, tie the across bottom end and up on side.
Once you get to the top, you will need to begin tying the layers separately. Tie the top print and solid piece together, then tie the bottom print and solid piece together. Work your way across the tops and down the remaining side.
That’s it! Your no sew sleep sack for toddlers is complete!
Unlike typical sleeping bags, there is no zipper. However it’s wide enough that when you pull the top layer back, the child is easily able to snuggle right down in it!
The Movie Night Blanket Fort!
There was a need for ambiance as well. I hooked blankets around the large mirror that hangs above the couch. The blankets got draped all around the area and then I strung up a few lights as well.
Almost a blanket fort and you should’ve seen Kolton’s expression when he saw what I had done! He was so excited!!!!
What’s a movie night without a few snacks? We love fruit and with a little whipped cream to dip it in, we were set!
How fun are these little containers of fresh fruit? Fun, colorful, delicious and healthy! Definitely the perfect movie night snack for a fruit loving family.
Once we were all settled; hanging out in our “blanket fort” with Kolton in his cuddly no sew sleep sack and munching fruit, it was movie time!!!
It was fun that our tax time savings on a new phone and the “Plus” plan spread into our movie night for even more savings! The VUDU movie credit is for one movie up to $7 which is the price of a new release movie.
So once a month, we can watch any movie of our choice without being constrained by a price tag! I pull up my laptop, browse VUDU movies, both new releases and the older ones, find a good movie and we typically watch it on the laptop as well. Other watching options include streaming to a smart TV, ROKU(R), Chromecast(R), VUDU Spark(TM), or other compatible devices
Finding family friendly movies on a budget became easier than ever thanks to the Unlimited* Talk, Text, & Data (including up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G) plan with Walmart Family Mobile.
