The Bible Proverbs ~Practically Applying them to Life
There are many proverbs to be found out there, many of them are very good for life, but the Bible Proverbs are the ones that Christians should always strive to live by.
Not that I’m totally dissing, say Chinese proverbs, but some of them do not coincide with the word of God and how, we as Christians should believe. Just like in my post where I talk about lies that Satan tells Christians; proverbs that are not from the bible can be misleading, they sound good, but are not of a Christlike mindset.
I’ve been sharing a Biblical proverb daily on Facebook and so many of them are just wonderful for our day-to-day lives. Below is a list of common occurrences in life that we can apply the bible proverbs towards.
Practically Applying Bible Proverbs to life:
Scenario:
You are on Facebook (or any type of online forum) and you post something you believe in. Suddenly you find yourself attacked for your particular belief. You’re attacker is telling you that you are dead wrong and here is why you are wrong and that you have no business: being a parent, doing your job, or any other thing they can come up with.
You park your car at the store, and when you get out, suddenly someone is there in their car yelling at your for taking “their spot”.
There seems to be a misunderstanding between you and another person and they are yelling at you for no real apparent reason.
Normal Human Reaction:
You type in as fast as you can that you ARE right, and here is why they are wrong. And While you are at it, you make sure they know, that you think they are acting like a jerk. ~this results in a long drawn out hate-filled conversation that will just add stress to your day.
You laugh and say, “too bad buddy, I got there first”. ~Don’t be surprised to come out of the store and find your car dented or scratched.
You “stand up for yourself” and give them the what-for right back; “the idiot did have his wires crossed” you know. ~This will never end well.
The Bible Proverbs for handling these situations:
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord ponders the hearts. 21:2” ~Consider why the other person may be attacking you. Very likely it has nothing whatsoever to do with you personally. Hurting people, hurt others.
Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue, keepeth his soul from troubles. 21:23 ~Think carefully before you speak in situations like this.
Do not go forth to hastily to strive (argue) in case you do not know the end, and your neighbor has put thee to shame. 25:8 ~You may not always be right.
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger. 15:1 ~So many times we want reply in haste and anger, but if we can offer up a soft reply, where we accept the blame (even if we don’t deserve it) and try to make amends, many times we will see that hurting heart I referred to earlier.
Scenario:
When getting dressed in the morning, you look in the mirror and groan. Those dark circles under your eyes, and those wrinkles, and teeth that are getting yellow, and, and, and….
You open your closet and see clothes that still fit, but they are just soooo old and out of style, you have 10 different pairs of shoes but none to go with your outfit.
There is a thrift store right next to your favorite shopping center, but you were really wanting that brand new sofa that matches the rest of your room.
Normal Human Reaction:
Take an extra hour and use makeup and whitening strips while trying to achieve the look of the movie star in your Cosmopolitan magazine.
Make a note to hit the mall later in the day and get a couple new outfits.
Eww! Who want’s a used sofa?
The Bible Proverbs for handling these situations:
Every wise woman buildeth her house, but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands. 14:1
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance… 15:13
Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. 27:20 ~no matter how much we have, we are not satisfied outside of Christ.
The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 31:11 ~Traditionally the man brings home the money and the woman spends it in caring for their home. Even in cases like ours, where the wife also works, we need to be careful of how we spend the the money we are blessed with. There is nothing wrong with used. 🙂
More Bible Proverbs for Daily Living:
When you are uncertain of the future: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thy own understanding. 3:5
Of marriage: …rejoice in the wife (or husband) of thine youth… and be always ravished with her (his) love. 6:18
When you don’t feel like doing anything: Go to the ant thou sluggard (lazy person), learn of her ways and be wise. 6:6
When you are tempted to do wrong and the tempter is saying “just a little bit won’t hurt”: Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not get burned? 6:28
Considering the care of animals: A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast… 13:10
Raising children: Train up a Child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. 22:6
I don’t think I need to keep going here, 🙂 If you haven’t read through the book of Proverbs recently, can I suggest that you do so? Many times I will be burdened down by something and there will be a verse in Proverbs that perfectly fits my situation.
